Default Best time to drive from the lower..

48?

I'm training for a new position and I could finish up before the spring thaw. I'm definitely driving with my pooch and a truck load of things. I'm wondering about the drive (from Michigan) in the winter vs the spring. I have plenty of time once I make this trek. I should have around 10 days to do it. Just wondering those that have made the trip can share their experiences on the drive. Obviously Jun-Sept would be a better time to drive but I may not have that option.

I'm planning on diving a diesel pickup with a small trailer. How's diesel fuel up there? I'm assuming like anywhere sometimes it's a bit more sometimes less.

I'm planning on buying a condo. How do you all feel about the real estate market? Things sound a bit soft up there too from what I read. Good time to buy?

Lastly, I have a dog that I will need to have watched on occasion when my company sends me out for a few days at a time. Any good dog sitters? I would prefer not to board him as he is too spoiled!

If you haven't read through this thread, lots of good information on getting around in AK.

Give us a closer time line, LAte March is always a good time to drive. Right before breakup. the roads are the best, pre thaw, pre construction.

We use reformulated diesel here now so the refineries have upped the price over gasoline. normally 10 cents.

Given a home in Central,AK planning on moving there
