Default Need something to do this weekend, help!

I'm in Anchorage, husband and 17 year old daughter. We are bored and need advise. Any performances this weekend? Plays? Also, we like a semi-fine dining experience, what can you advise?

Were up for anything, just name it. We have been here for weeks now and getting bored. Throw some wild ideas and some mainstream ones too. Best idea wins a round on me!

Thumbs up Go forth unto the mount, and be still

The three of you must race to the top of Flattop Mountain. This is the best time of year to do it, as the crowds are minimal.

Let us know how it goes.

Well, Girdwood is not that far of a drive, Alyeska, could be a lot of fun, depending on the snow situation, really good food can be found there as well. You are in Alaska, the majority of the entertainment is outdoors, and the varieties of experiences are limited only by your imagination. I would suggest get out of the house, drive around, take your camera with you. Seward and the sealife center is worth a visit. Seward without the sealife center is still worth the trip, as is homer. You are surrounded by some of the best scenery the world has to offer.

Default Bored in Anchorage???

Have you seen a film/dined in the Beartooth theatre? They make a great chile rellano stuffed with mashed potato.

The Anchorage Museum is great for an indoor stroll.

Do you ice skate? Some of the lakes are starting to open for skating.

You could rent snowshoes at REI & tromp around Glen Alps where the snow is.

Lunch at Simon & Seafort's is nice so you can see out into the inlet.

Drive up the Glen Hwy & hike the short walk back to Thunderbird Falls.

Drive up to Eklutna & go to the cemetery for a touch of Russian culture.

Get an Anchorage paper. They always have ads for dining and things to do. I think just about any establishment on 5th avenue is fairly good dining. Or take the tram up the mountain in Girdwood and eat up on the mountain.

Here's some non-touristy things you could do. sort of normal stuff but that's what I know since I live here. it's the kind of stuff I do when I'm bored which might not be what you're looking for but who knows

- buy a sled and go sledding at Arctic Valley, North Bicentenial park, Nunaka valley, service high, kincaid... hopefully it snows before the w/e
- drive up stuckagain heights or to flattop at night to see the city lights
- take a dance lesson... latin basics at saraya's friday night 9PM or lindy swing at golden lion saturday 7:30PM
- Open volleyball at cell one sports center fridays 7-10PM

Also you might check out the Alaska Native Heritage Center saturdays are supposed to be best... more of a touristy thing but it's really cool

My fav. restaurant in town is the Glacier Brewhouse. That's what I would suggest as far as a good dining experience is concerned...

Check out what's going on at the PAC by visiting https://alaskapac.centertix.net/ to buy tickets to a show. They're always good for something!

What about taking a weekend and driving out to Talkeetna? Or Girdwood as was previously mentioned? I would picked up a copy of "The Press" to find out whats happening around town....they've got all the gallery openings, theatre, great dining, etc listed in it.

Good luck and let us know what you end up doing!
