I have state farm ins. They only cover windshields if it is a crack in the visual driving area and it must be at least 6 inches long. Should consider buying coverage for a rental car if your car is undriveable because of an accident, and towing too.

My insurance was through Crystal Fusion. I had to have their product applied to the windshield by the dealer with every new windshield they installed, or I would not be covered.

Not surprisingly, they stopped offering their insurance in Alaska sometime around 2010 or 2011.

I still had to have comprehensive coverage for the new vehicle, of course. That was, and still is, through USAA. I just did not file a claim if it was windshield related, I used Crystal Fusion's coverage instead.

Not surprising. I bet Crystal Fusion lost their rear ends providing coverage to Alaskans.

They certainly did in my case. They paid out more than I paid in premiums. Which, of course, I knew would be the case.

Anyone who puts more than 20,000 miles on their vehicle during the course of a year in Alaska is going to have their windshield dinged or cracked. That is a given.

Reading thru this thread brings back some good memories. I drove between Denver/Boulder and Anchorage on 4 or 5 occassions between '72 and '75. The Alaska highway portion was mostly gravel back then. The first time thru, I got my windshield cracked on one of the short sections of paved surface, near Whitehorse. What an ironic bummer that was!

Apparently Crystal Fusion works with the dealerships, at least according to the link below:
Therefore, it could have been Kendall Toyota (where I bought my vehicle) that canceled the coverage in Alaska, and not Crystal Fusion. It may be possible to obtain similar coverage from other dealerships in Alaska.

Their home page says nothing about replacing the windshield should it chip or crack. It does says it makes the windshield resist them though.
