I'm fairly new to Anchorage and I had dinner at Vallartas. It was recommended to me by a co-worker. I liked the different salsa's, but they did not serve any liquior drinks. Only beer and wine.
I'm sorry but a wine margarita is not as good as the real thing! Anyway, I'm from Oklahoma and used to Tex-Mex. What is the best Mexican restaurant with the best margaritas in Anchorage? They also need to have good queso and fresh chips. I haven't tried any Italian places yet so same question. No Olive Garden so I don't know where to go. Thanks for your input! |

Can't say for the margaritas, but Mexico in Alaska is my favorite in Anchorage & I am originally a New Mexican. Nothing is truly Mexican here, though. Sigh.

You have Gallo's Mexican Restaurant, La Mex, and Carlo's Mexican Restaurant.

I have not found a good mexican resturant yet, as far as Italian resturants go...I guess Boston is mine, tryed a few others but they didn't impress me either.

Try Little Italy. Also Mexico in Alaska is great.

Try googling for Gruff's Alaskan Feedbag. It's been around since the days of ACA, and has been regularly updated. And it's fun to read.

As a Texan and someone who lived in Oklahoma a few years back...
please don't bother with Gallo unless you like bland cafeteria food. The outside of the place is deceiving (making you think it will be good inside), but the smaller places are 10000000x better. Mexico in Anchorage is the best here as someone already said, and it isn't a place to brag home about. I'm totally with ya on missing some good mexican food ![]() |

Yeah, unfortunately, decent Mexican or Tex-Mex grub does not seem to exist in the state. I had a really tasty halibut taco in Homer once, but I dunno that it would qualify as real Tex-Mex, either.
You could probably make a killing starting a REAL Tex-Mex joint, though; I've come across soooo many transplanted Okies or Texans who share my lament. I like to hit Orso (really spendy) on trips down to Anchorage. (I figure my husband can at least take me out for a nice dinner date once in awhile, lol) Much better than Olive Garden "Italian" food... but for anywhere cheaper than that in Anchorage, I couldn't tell you. |

Oh- The Saturday/Sunday Market has a guy in the food area who makes the best salmon casadillas made fresh right before you on the grill.
