Cobolt,
I set my camera to RAW. I use a Mac, and the computer automatically makes a JPEG copy of the RAW when it downloads it. The JPEG photos are for displaying on the computer, and if I like one of them, then I use PhotoShop Elements to work on the RAW original photo. I always leave the RAW photo untouched, and work on copies of it only. Tokina lenses are pretty nice. I use the 12-24 mm Tokina for wide landscapes, since it's a very wide-angle lens at 12 mm. Then I also use a Tamron 17-50 mm lens, and this one is another very nice lens (a walk-around lens). I can take pictures of people with this one, or the dog in the backyard (photo below). Canon makes incredibly nice lenses, but the best ones are quite expensive. In fact, there is a very old Canon Zoom lens at B&H Photo And Video that costs $99,000.00 !!!!! However, the best quality Canon lenses (L lenses) cost from around $700.00 to perhaps $5,000 depending on what you want. And then, there is a pretty cheap lens that produces outstanding images of great quality. This lens is called "nifty-50" (50 mm lens). In f/1.8, this lens costs around $80.00, and around three times as much in f/1.4. This week I plan to buy a Canon telephoto EF-200mm f/2.8L II USM. This is an "L" lens, but has no "IS" (image stabilization). The same lens with IS costs twice as much. However, it's supposed to me extremely sharp and fast. I will buy this lens, and a teleconverter for it. With a 2x teleconverter it turns to a 400 mm lens I can use for taking pictures of moose and such during the day. You can see how sharp the Tamron is: ![]() |

I shall frequent that forum for some tips and advice and general knowledge...you know, get schooled. Thanks for the info. I'm looking forward to seeing you give that new lense a workout!! |
