Default is there a husband for me in alaska

i am moving from the lower 48 rat races. i need to arrange everything first. i will need to live close to public schools and college, so i assume the outskirts of anchorage will do, but where exactly?i will need to arrange housing and transportation, i am not rich, so it may take some time.and most of the arrangements need to be complete before i come up there. if anyone feels the need to help, great. i am a single lady with 3 closeknit nature loving kids,we are a strong unit. i hope to find a compatable male in alaska,
i like to find and study fossils, .i also hope to go to the exact north pole holding a compass, someday, it excites me and makes my blood run warm.
i wish i had all the college degrees already under my belt to do the things i wish i had the qualifications for. so i hope to enroll in the science department of the closest college .i hope i find a way to turn this pipe dream into a reality. and yes i understand the climate and i am looking forward to months of night, a long dawn, months of day and long dusk.

QUESTION. .does anyone have any suggestions or questions?
. which communities and colleges should i look into?
. any cheap houses for rent?
. is there anyone in alaska who want to be friends and keep
encouraging me to reach alaska?

The ratio of males and females in the Anchorage area is just about even. Don't let that stop you though--but just realize that it isn't what a lot of people think it is.

Be very careful about hooking up online. You've got three kids to consider.

Smile Sarah Leeann... :)

Hello Sarah Leeann... your post is so sweet. I may actually have something for you... but I wouldn't want to post it to the board. A friend in the ANC area that just... is a great guy, and I'm certain he'd welcome your sweetness. Other info too, but I'll save it for now. I'm very familiar w/AR. Beautiful place w/very friendly ppl. Ever have an Ozark Smokehouse sandwich? Several locations in NWA and Central AR, but they have slowed down from when I first knew of them. More later... & I'll be looking fwd to hearing from you!

thank you, i am embarrased at my forwardness of the issue, but survival will be quite different up there. yes it is very beautiful here in northwest arkansas, it is very abundant of life and evidence of life millions of years ago, we've gotten a good winter this year, finally. no i have not been in the ozark steak house (on 6th st.) but i hear they made the best sandwiches.
this is very stange to me having conversation like this. it gave me a happy feeling reading your note that was directed at me. i am new to this, because of all the bad things i've heard about internet "chatting", i've just stayed out of it ,till now, i am confident but a bit leary, there's my contradiction of the day.
i am not sure how i should go about this move to alaska, i feel that i do not have any thing to contribute to the communities. i don't know if i should school before i go or after i get there. if i wait to study proffesionally(college) i will not have as many choices as to where in alaska to stay for a while, also what does alaska need me to contribute in the fields of science, i am going to have to narrow my interests down to one that is needed, i would prefer to see what grabs my intrest the most by being exposed to all the elements of alaska. well, alaska is not the only place i want to study, i really want to hunt fossils in africa, but not move there. i am trying to get a pure reality of what daily life is like in alaska, people say "it's not what you think" without hearing what one thinks, i've studied this whole world from home all my life,i have thought about what it would be like to have darkness for six months since i was very small, yet i have never truly expierienced it, so i can be assured ,that it will be different than i imagined, my past expieriences have proved to me that almost everything imagined is a bit different than the reality. i lived in a valley that seemed to be in the middle of nowhere, when i moved i thought having neighbors would just about kill me, i was wrong, it's not so bad.
we'll hey i feel like i am not supposed to be going on and on like this right now, so i hope to hear from you again i hope to hear a little about your friend.

Well, it's not what you think in that you won't have darkness for six months in Anchorage or any other part of the state...among other things. And the ratio of men to women in Anchorage is just about even, so in that way it isn't what a lot of people think either.

Geology might be a good field for you to look into.

You can start here to see what the college in Anchorage might offer you:

University of Alaska Anchorage

There are a lot of single men up here, but there are also a lot of weird men (ok, and crazy women). Keep an open mind, and an eye on the nearest exit.

best of luck to you, hon

I second Met on geology as a good field to look into, it would be a great career pathway if you decide to stay.

Yep or glacierology. The study of glaciers, their movement, their recession and the impact thereof becomes increasingly important with climate change. I know if I were to return to school, I would seriously consider it, although I've always been attracted to the earth sciences: meteorology, geology, volcanography, oceanography. ANy of these could be studied and used in AK.

Isn't there a school of petroleum related studies somewhere?
