Anyways, I wasn't sure were Alakanuk even was until this thread. It means wrong way, or mistake village in Yupik. Looks like a fun place to have a jet boat. Learn something new everyday on city data. Good luck with the teaching job OP.
I also had to google Alakanuk and saw that it means mistake village. Hopefully that's not an omen for OP. If it were me, it would probably only make me want to go there more because I think it's funny. <-- No questions why I have so many... ahh, "adventures" in my life, right? lol

Yes, I wanted to come teach in Alaska in my early 20s. That's how I got started in ham radio because I was told it would be an essential skill. I never made it -- got a job in Central Michigan -- but I always wonder if I could've made a positive impact. It certainly would've been the adventure of a lifetime!

Back then, computers would've taken up half of a classroom and used punch cards. I imagine I would've spent tons of money shipping up texts and reference books, plus a truck or two of school supplies, with lots of chalk, pencils, and paper. Today, I imagine teachers are hauling up netbooks, routers, and spools of computer cable, and maybe white board markers. Or not . . . ? I know of places in the rural South that still use chalk boards.

You just need to bump your post count up. Go back and respond to everyone. That should get you enough.
