Default Can anybody help me remember name of bar?

Back in the early 1990s, I had the opportunity to come to Alaska (UA at Anchorage and Fairbanks) to do recruiting for Peace Corps. While there, my colleagues and I went to this unusual little bar on the road south and east of Anchorage (maybe the Seward Highway?) The bar was damaged by the 1964 earthquake and the bar sat at a steep angle. The oddest thing about this bar was the underwear tacked up all over the walls. In the ensuing years, I have forgotten the name of this bar. Does anybody know? Is it still there? I have friends moving to Anchorage day after tomorrow and I'd like to direct them there sometime during their stay there. And since we'll be coming to visit next year, if the bar is still open, I have to take DH there! Thanks!

The bar burned down a few years back. They tried having a little part of in incorporated with another bar in town somewhere. I don't know how that turned out. That bar was in Indian Valley south of Anchorage.

I'm sad it burned down, but happy to not have to wrack my brain anymore for the name of the bar! Thanks!

Yeah, they have a bar set up in Koot's in memory of it. The bar itself is actually slanted just like the original bar was after the 64 quake. It's no wonder the birdhouse burnt down. The floors were covered with sawdust and the walls are covered with all kinds of flammable objects.

groovya is on a distinguished road
There is another bar south of Anchorage in Indian called "Brown Bear Saloon" It's a tiny bar with dollar bills tacked to the ceiling. If you are still looking for an "Authentic" Alaska bar. They have great burgers too!

Thanks for the suggestions! When we come up there, I'm sure we'll check it out. Back when I visited Alaska, I was living in Washington DC and the only bars there were yuppie bars where you might find congressional aides (this was pre-Monica Lewinsky) and other yuppie-type people. The Birdhouse was a very nice change. And, to my amazement, there was actually a Peace Corps bumper sticker there! While it's a long way away, I'm looking forward to coming back!
