My last trip driving through Canada cost just under 2 grand 2 years ago. That includes a hotel every night for 2, eating for 2 at a restraunt twice a day, diesel fuel, souvenier shopping.

An idea of southeast Ak shopping for groceries:

I don't eat at fast-food places, but I do buy lots of dog food. I pay approximately $1/pound for "Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul" from Alaska Mill & Feed in Anchorage.

I was only in Canada 5 days max. 2 1/2 days driving south and 2 1/2 driving north a day later. So it was hotels 5 nights, eating for 5 days, fuel, t-shirts, beer, snuff...right at 1800.00 Canadian. Two years ago. Not sure where their fuel prices are these days.
You won't get charged to cross the border...unless you've had a DUI! If that were the case... they can either deny you entrance...or they can charge you like 300 bucks for a waiver to drive through to Alaska.
