Great link. Anchorage is actually a VERY safe city. There's not one area of town I wouldn't walk in day or night. That's the great thing about Anchorage. It's a growing city without all the crime and so forth.

I don't know where you are getting your information that Anchorage is "a VERY safe city", perhaps just wishful thinking. According to the 2006 FBI Uniform Crime Report, Anchorage is hardly safe. Anchorage, in fact, is far worse than most major cities its size and larger. Particularly if you happen to be female.
Aggravated assaults and forcible rape in Anchorage are more than double the National Average. Motor vehicle theft is 30% higher in Anchorage than the National Average. The number of murders in Anchorage is 25% higher than the National Average. In absolutely every crime category you can think of, Anchorage has a higher crime rate than the National Average on a per capita basis.

I am getting my info from experience. While those stats may be true, you can walk around any neighborhood in Anchorage and I can bet you won't have any troubles. When you put the murders into comparison with the population, yes it can be high. I don't think 26 murders (or something close to that in 2007) for a city with a population of around 282,813 is horribly high!! I don't think so. Rape and domestic violence is high though. I will agree on that. But even with that, I feel safer in Anchorage than I will ever feel somewhere else.

That chart doesn't have rapes on it. I hope that Anchorage feels safe to me when I'm there in August. There are a lot of places here in Charlotte that I don't feel safe in either.
