How much is your grocery bill in Anchorage? What are the prices like? (work)

I have the opportunity to move back up to Anchorage after being away for 4 1/2 years to attend UAA and get my journalism degree and I am curious to know what everyone is spending on a grocery bill? My aunt and friend keep telling me food is astronomical up there. I'm talking about Milk, bread,eggs, soda and such. here's what I pay in AZ. how do the prices in Anchorage compare?? I don't want to spend too much considering I will be working mostly part time. I'm only 19 of course.

Milk: $2.99
Bread: $1.19
eggs: $2.29
Soda: $3.99
Sugar: $1.19

Also, I don't recall there ever being a WILD OATS or WHOLE FOODS MARKET and the website says there aren't any in AK!!! Anyone know of similar places in Anchorage?

I buy groceries once a week for two people and spend around $100 every time. I do cook at home a lot, but not gourmet. A 12 pack of soda will cost $5.99 to $6.99! Bascially, from my experience, I pay 60-75% more for groceries in Anchorage than I did in Oklahoma City.

thanks much. 5.99 for soda!!! IS that generic or name brand? I figure food prices would be expensive but my goodness. That much for soda!!! good thing i'm trying to stop drinking it

I only buy Coca-cola. Friday I went to Carr's and they had a special, buy 2 get 3 free! So I spent $13.something and got five cases. That's less than $3 a case! So...I guess if you can find the right deals prices aren't that bad sometimes. I'm just not a bargain hunter, but I'm becoming one real quick!

Get yourself a Costco card and start buying bulk. You will save between 10% and 15%, but the down side is that you will have fewer choices to select from and need more room for storage.

you can watch the sales like the recent advertisement of buy 2 12 packs of pepsi and get 3 free, buy 1 18 pack of eggs and get 1 free. Just watch your sales and you can save a great deal of money, I would venture to say it's not much different up here as down there especially when you take into account taxes. The produce is not as good as down there unless you by locally grown.
