Driving from Whitehorse YT to Anchorage
Hi everybody,
I am currently living in Anchorage but in a few weeks am going back to Maryland to pick up some stuff and drive back up and have most of my trip planned but have gotten to Whitehorse in the YT in Canada and have not been able to find a stopping place between the two that might have a hotel so that I can complete my trip.
Any help would be great...
Thank You,

Pick up the new edition of The Milepost. There are plenty of places to stop.

Eh...I wouldnt say plenty. There are definently a few, but there are a few were I would not want to stop. If you want to do the drive in two days, Tok is probably the best bet. Especially if you are going to have things in your truck.

If you try, you can get to Tok from Whitehorse in 8 hours. I did that a couple winters ago, it was late in the evening and I just didn't want to stay one more night in Canada. Its doable in less time when the road has no snow on it.

I've stayed in Tok. It was fine, and there isn't that many good options for that leg otherwise. If you are doing that much driving I have found that the ideal sequence is Anchorage-Whitehorse-Ft. Nelson-Edmonton. After that there is a lot more flexibility. If you get off of that sequence Tok, Watson Lake and Grand Prairie are the other options which will work. Get hotel arrangements for the parts in Yukon and northern BC. There are decent options at those ideal stops I mentioned, but you don't want to get there and have no options.

We did Watson Lake to Tok in one day which I don't recommend, but Whitehorse to Tok I think is a good choice

When my father-in-law made the trip, he'd figure that morning where he'd be at the end of the day, look in his Milepost, and make a reservation for that location. They ended up travelling with the same vehicles and he was the only one who didn't have to scramble to find a vacancy. It worked well for the whole trip.

We might be doing that in June. What do you think was your average speed? Do you think it can be done quicker with two drivers during the day? Just want to know when we'll have to wake up that morning.
