Default Just when you thought it was safe...

Just when you thought it was safe to take that nice quiet stroll through Campbell Creek Park...

More bears live on Campbell Creek than biologists thought

Biologists are leery of even taking a guess at exactly how many grizzly bears inhabit the Municipality of Anchorage. But they agree that is it far more than the 50 once thought to make up the entire population in the area bounded by Turnagain Arm, Knik Arm, and a line across the mountains from Portage to the Knik Glacier.

Saw bears on a hike up flat top. 50 is a lot of bears. How much area does each bear require? Guess it would be best to go in a group and make a lot of noise while hiking CC.

50 is the estimated number of grizzly bears. Counting black bears, they estimate more than 400 total bears and 1,200 moose live within the city limits of Anchorage.

Finally working our way back to the last frontier with the animals living amongst us. I always have moose in the yard seen a small black bear last year, it's the part of Alaska that I love.

That is one of the coolest things about AK...the wildlife. I had a blast and saw a slice of life in my two visits there in 2006. We saw eagles, grizzlies, wolf, daal sheep and moose in Denali, there were moose (cow and calves) right at UAA, sea lions, porpise, humpbacks, otters, all manner of sea birds from Seward to Ketchikan. One beautiful place to be sure....all of a sudden I have a yen for fireweed honey ice cream...
