Hi,
I'm looking for an apartment in downtown or midtown and can't find any great apartments. Im moving in 2 weeks and have searched craigslist and the daily news and haven't found anything except ugly apts. I have an old cat and no car so I have to be near bike paths and the people mover. Im really excited to move and really need help with finding a decent place. I don't mind noisy places and I could rent a small house or studio or small 1 bedroom. Thanks in advance for your input.
~C

They are there, but you will have to pay an arm and a leg downtown and get *very* lucky in midtown. Having a cat makes it much harder here, too. I should know, I have three! lol "Nice" apartments that are affordable are in the more suburban, out-of-the-way areas, unfortunately. The Daily News is useless for apartment hunting, it's nothing but the really high cost options. If you are really determined to live in a specific area, your best bet is to scout out the area in person and look for the signs on the buildings with contact info. I strongly, STRONGLY suggest you avoid the two major property management companies in town, Nova and Weidner, they are absolute CROOKS. You will most likely find that you'll have to lower your standards quite a bit in exchange for your choice of areas, but hey, some fresh paint and creativity goes a long way.

Keep looking. The good places are snagged up quick. A lot of renters don't post ads and just throw up signs on places in the best areas of town because they know people will see them and call.

I agree, with a cat it may be harder still.
