Are there stations in Anchorage or Wasilla with home heating oil pumps where I can fill my own tank? If yes, do you know the price? Thanks!

3 Bears in Houston sells off-road diesel from normal dispensers. I don't know the current price. It won't have the $0.24 federal, $0.08 state, or $0.10 Anchorage road tax on it.

If you pull up with a diesel truck you have to go inside the store and convince them you won't put any in the truck's tank.

Any idea why diesel fuel is so expensive now? Locally, the on-road kind is about $1.40 more per gallon than regular gasoline at a name-brand station. I know nothing about petroleum refinement, but I'd think that diesel would require less work to produce than gasoline.

The same fraction of crude oil that you distill diesel from is nearly the same fraction that you make both heating oil and, more importantly, jet fuel out of. People with gas cars tend to drive fewer miles in the winter so gas demand goes down. Heating oil use goes up and with the holidays both diesel (truck deliveries) and jet fuel (holiday travel) demand goes up.

Both Gasoline and diesel fuel came down in price last and this week. I purchased a 200 gallons of heating fuel last week and then delivered to my house with the help of a friend who has a 300-gallon tank, and I paid $679.00 for it. Having the fuel delivered to my house would have cost somewhere near $900.00. Keep in mind that Sourdough and some of the other bulk-fuel outlets give you a ten-cent discount if you are a senior.
