Ha! Sounds like good advice. Has anyone written a book on avoiding Cheekako Traps? I bet it would be very funny....and invaluable.

I would love to have that book! Get on it people September is right around the corner!! LOL. Maybe I will start a new thread )

Cool restaurant! They have lots of vegetarian/vegan options, too! That sure makes a veggie girl like me smile!

Snow City is nice and friendly and good food.
I went to the Bear Tooth a couple times and thought it was pretty cool. Lots of live music. Went to their site Bear Tooth and see that Wilco is playing July 26! Wow, I like those guys. Might have to make a run to Anchortown.

I don't know about volleyball, but the music and craft scene in Anchorage is awesome! There are several venues that have live music frequently, and we have a branch of the craft mafia here, too!

Anchorage Craft Mafia - Home of the coldest shows in the North!

Thank you all for the valuable information I have gotten so far from this site. I am moving to Anchorage in the fall for work from Washington, DC.

I am really into music (local and unknown national acts), crafts and volleyball. Those are the things that occupy my time in DC. Is there a scene for those things in Anchorage?

Does Anchorage have an arts district where arty/indie people live? I found where ever I move to a new city there is a district like that somewhere.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks-
Jamie.

A place you might want to look at is Homer, or even Halibut Cove across the Bay (access by boat only, Homer you can drive to). There is a lot of folks there that are into arts, music and the like (where the singer "Jewel" is from as well as Tom Bodett).

It is a pretty place and the winters are moderate, Talkeetna is a nice place too but the winters are really cold and they only have a few hundred that live there so your choice of groups to "hang" with are pretty slim. Homer has a few thousand and a bit more selection.

Default Moving as well

Hey there,
I was doing a similar search and came up with your thread. I'm also moving to Alaska this fall and looking for the "hip" neighborhood to settle in. I lived in Adams Morgan in DC for awhile but now I'm in the Colorado mountains. Did you find an area that seems good? All I can come up cookie cutter housing.
