I had Alaska Digitel when I lived in Anchorage and wound up moving with a few months left on my contract. Since I had the unlimited nationwide plan, I decided to take the phone with me to the East coast. It worked great! I still got my text messages and voicemail, so I was happy. The only thing that didn't work was the Internet connection. My daughter had the unlimited Alaska plan, which didn't work outside AK, so I just let her plan run out. You really can't beat the price and if you need unlimited roaming, they work great.

If you are moving to Alaska but want to stay with your current provider be sure to check the fine print of your contract. Many unlimited plans that include free nationwide roaming have a clause buried in the fine print stating a certain percentage of your usage must originate within the companies own service area.
