The costco on debarr road would be about 15 minutes from downtown I'd say, take the glenn to bragaw and you'd get there pretty fast. Or just go down 15th, it depends on where downtown.

If you want to live close to costco either look into airport heights / russian jack neighborhoods or live off of Dimond Blvd.

I am leaning towards Anchorage--I could get better paying jobs anywhere but I am fascinated with the isolation component of Anchorage. I want limited amount of human contact with anyone. If I do move to Alaska I am driving. My jeep has 130 thousand miles. I would feel more confident if I bought a new jeep before making the drive. I will be fine if I could live next to Costco or any major food store.

Anchorage is a city. There will be people there. There will be crime there. There will be bums and homeless humans there. It's a CITY and not so different from other cities.

Anchorage is really not what you would call isolated.

But by city standards, it's nothing like a Seattle, Portland, Chicago, Los Angeles, etc.

Not sure what kind of work you do...but there are a handfull of smaller towns in the state to choose from if you want to be more isolated. And a few have Fred Meyers etc for shopping.

That's for sure. But if she wants to live near Costco and supermarkets, those stores are in crowded areas.

Default Seeking Isolation

I believe I will have to deal with people wherever I live. In Chicago I have encountered many nosey, gossipy, petty, superficial, judgmental, ignorant people. I usually ignore them but if I could avoid them that would be even better!

I am concerned that Anchorage may be full of red-neck racist undereducated hicks that fear or are jealous of "outsiders"?

I don't want the "locals" in my face, grinning--I am a quiet, shy, loner and I prefer to not be bothered.

My definition of bothered consist of communicating with a person for malicious negative reasons.

Where is the best place for me to live where I won't be bothered?

I don't want to be stalked or the gossiped about. I just want to live in peace--I want to feel safe--I want to avoid crime--I want to avoid conflict--I am not seeking any friends--I just want to go home and to work with NO conflict.

I can avoid crime--I don't drink alcohol, do drugs, hang at bars or do anything that would welcome crime. I am low maintenance and do all I can to avoid people. I just want to make sure I move to an area where I can live my life I want to without drama.

The moon.

Sorry, but you won't find what you're looking for in Anchorage, though I highly doubt you'll encounter people seeking you out for the purpose of negative and malicious communication. But your "locals grinning in my face comment" is a touch confusing, because that could be construed as normal friendliness, yet you seem to think it would be bothering you. And no, it isn't full of uneducated hicks.

BUT--we all teach people how to treat us. I'd guess that you need to take some responsibility for the negativity in your life. Hell, I go through Greta Garbo phases myself and never have any trouble with anyone "bothering" me--but it sounds like you almost expect that from people. Going to work and going home and not being bothered is actually one of the easiest things to do in life--much easier than actually being involved in life, really.

What you're looking for ain't a place, sweetheart, and Alaska is full of those who think that the north is somehow magically going to fix their lives.

Good luck to you. The answer to this one's within yourself and not in location.
