Apply to a college in Alaska and get some student loans to help pay for tuition/fees/living expenses. Get an education while you check out the state.

My son and his girlfriend lived in Palmer while she worked on her Master's degree. He worked full time and she got a small stipend. Rent and fuel kept them broke pretty much all the time!! As everyone else has pointed out, you'll need a lot more than $3000. to set up housekeeping.

Spring is the best time to move to Alaska. Things are happening in the spring.

Right now, everyone is "battening down the hatches" for winter. I just drove down today from Nenana to Palmer. It was amazing how dead the Denali area was compared to two months ago.

A lot of people only work in the summers here and hole up for the winter. There are few jobs in the winter and what few there are usually have multiple applications.

That is not to say you won't be able to do it...but the risks are about 10 times greater to have problems in the winter.

For example, you can sleep in your car if you have to in the summer...doesn't work in the winter.
