well everyone, we finally made it here to Seward last weekend and not surprising is that this native Texan is FREEZING!!
I found out what a Safeway is and also saw my first seal...or was it a large otter??? (i could only see the head from a short distance) Anyways, now i've got a couple of questions....
We're going to be in Anchorage this weekend and i thought i would get some bulk grocery shopping done so i guess there's a Sam's or something there? Also, we're told that there is this "made in Alaska" thing going on so we wanted to do some walkin around. Any other stores/eateries that we should visit? whats a "must see" for my mother who is here only until saturday?
Also, i need to find a good pediatrician (hopefully not to far from Seward) for my daughter. know anybody good?
but anyways...i'm glad to be here and hope to adjust rather quickly.

Don't forget to check out the Exit Glacier, about 10 miles north of Seward. On your way to, or from, Anchorage stop by the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center in Portage. The best place to eat in all of Alaska is at the Seven Glacier's Restaurant (http://www.alyeskaresort.com/page.asp?intNodeID=10903 - broken link) on top of Mount Alyeska in Girdwood. They specialize in French-style gourmet cuisine, so be prepared for sticker-shock.

There are three areas in Anchorage where stores are clustered together:
  • The Dimond Center on Dimond Blvd.;
  • The University Center between Benson and Northernlights; and
  • Downtown between 4th & 6th Streets.
Two of the better restaurants in Anchorage are Simon & Seafort's (http://www.r-u-i.com/sim/ - broken link) which specializes in fish dishes, and Club Paris which specializes in steaks. Both are located downtown Anchorage.

Sam's Club off Old Seward across from Dimond Mall, or Costco west on Dimond Blvd from Seward Hiway.

Get a Costco card. They have a much better selection of merchandise.

Judy's Cafe isn't bad either. Pretty good breakfast for $10... called a 2x2.

ok, I'll give you some hints....

Be prepared to get the flu....all of you. You have to aclimate to Alaska. It's just the way it is.
Next year 60 degrees will be warm....70 will be damn hot.

Don't fight this, just roll with it.

Spenard, north of International Airport, on the right side across from the Harley-Davidson store.
