Bob the road was in excellent condition when we made our trip. No rock chips or broken headlights. There is a surprising amount of new pavement along the route. We did get one flat tire 40 miles south of Deadhorse...and the road there was a chipseal form of pavement. We had picked up a nail! There is a GBR tire shop right at the end of the haulroad when you arrive in Deadhorse and there are 2 spots you can buy gas in Deadhorse. But it's high dollar fuel.

Most places in Canada accept US$$ too, but not necessarily at the best exchange rate.
When I travel through Canada, I make a guess as to how much cdn $$ I need, stop at an ATM and use my debit card (my bank's exchange rate is usually good). I use the cash for meals and charge hotels and gas to a credit card. If I took out too much cdn $$, I pay my last hotel with it when I leave and take it off the credit card. Just before crossing the border, usually last food stop, I dump spare change in the donation pot on the counter. Bank and credit card statements let me know what I spent in Canada, including the foreign exchange fee they charge.
