Does anyone know if there's a service like the Spot Satellite messenger that allows the messages to be sent by mobile phone?

Bob Blockus did not want to be statistic if something goes wrong on long 5,000 mile drive to Alaska. Decided it was best to Fly at end of April start of May. last minute decision. when on Alaska Airlines and or South West Airlines going to Alaska Bob could smile and relax. the previous planed long drive 15 day trip was solo no fun in that regards. Bob chicked out for Drive Trip. Better to play it safe.

That's probably a good decision Bob, you might have worried yourself into being a statistic. You will probably save money this way too, then can relax and be fresh for new job at McKinley. Yes indeed, Mr. B., yes indeed...

You will have to keep us updated on when you are leaving and arriving, take lots of pictures at McKinley to share with us, but don't forget to bring your new running shoes, you will still need them!!!

sorry to hear the decision Mr Bob but you gotta do what your comfortable with! I would have been one wonderful drive but not if your not comfortable doing it. Maybe next time you can find travel companion!! Do let us know how the job goes and post pictures please!

Oh man, this is a bit of a disappointment, I've been following this tread, haven't posted, but have really enjoyed. I was looking forward reading about your trip Mr. Bob.

Either way, best to ya Bob.

Your help wasn't for nothing. I'm sure others read it and found it useful. I found your route around GP to be very informative. Would've saved me some time with the RCMP on one of my trips if I'd known about it. I plan to take that route on my next trip, so thanks!
