Job
Greetings...
I was just offered a job in Anchorage and had two questions. One, so how does the cost of living compare to Florida? I presently make about 45,000. The job offers about 50,000. Secondly, they want me to drive up the first of March...how are the roads...and I'm talking Orlando, Florida to Anchorage...
Thanks

In the search mode key in "relocation calculator" it will give you what you need to live in different cities. Why do they want you to drive up? Why not fly up?

Under the Alaska Forum, the posting "To Move or Not to Move" has links for newspaper, moving calculator, etc. It pays to scroll through the postings under Anchorage and Alaska both. Most questions can be answered there.

Thank you so much...by the way do I understand correctly...has 'warptman' driven the AlCan several times...? If so what is your best advice this time of year? I'm thinking of staying south until arizona then heading north...I have not driven in snow and ice for many years...so I would really like to make it in one piece...Oh and as far as flying up, I don't have a lot of reserve funds and I don't want to sell my jeep...so...the company will pay for two months in a hotel and reimburse me for milage after I get there but money will be tight for awhile...

Winter is a great time to drive the Alcan. I've done it many times. Just have to be prepared for it.

If I did the Alcan again, would drive a 'normal' vehicle, not pulling a weighted-to-the-max monster behind me...plan on stopping, viewing, walking 'main' streets, having coffee and meeting locals...probably camping and cooking on fire or grill, as not a restaurant person...take many pictures, find someplace cool, love Kluane, find a spot, sit back, relax and enjoy nature, find some ducks to feed (we found wild ducks in a pull-off that came up and let us touch them, including mom duck), that was priceless...everything else Mastercard who no longer owns us after last month...

I drove from Florida to Anchorage in April 1997 with my (then) husband- now XH- LOL. The Alcan was a fun experience (no joke) and did not cause our divorce!!
