Am I looking at this right????

2009 Motor Vehicle Registration Fees and Taxes (http://www.state.ak.us/local/akpages/ADMIN/dmv/reg/feemvrt.htm - broken link)

AK has a flat fee for auto registration????

If so that is great news. The vehicle we are keeping's registration here is due at the end of May and is $320. We will be in AK by that time (we don't want to have pay double reg fees) and according to the info ALL non commercial vehicles are only $100 plus the taxes (which for us would be $39)

...and that registration is good for two years, in case you didn't know. You still however need to get a $60 emmissions test done though. You can thak Mark Begich for that. One of his little going away presents.

Emissions? Wow haven't had to have that done since we left Nevada. Montana doesn't require it.

Still a much better deal. Averages out a hell of a lot cheaper than Calif, Nv or MT.

When questioned by Border Customs Agents, maybe he doesn't speak in third person, else likely to be searched for drugs, yes indeed.

Just a suggestion.

I've been back and forth several times with one or two five gallon cans and never got a second look. Now, I'm sure if you were to show up with a loaded pallet they might want to charge you an import duty.

yes, and it is very reasonable.
A hint tho....
Have your insurance changed over to Alaska coverage before you go to the DMV. Wait the 30 days (if your out of state tags are still good), change your policy from Montana to Alaska, and take the whole policy in with you,,,not just the "little card".
This will grease the wheels and make it totally painless. And pay in cash.
You'll walk out with new plates for the vehicles.
This was my experience.
