Salmon
Just out of curiosity how much for fresh salmon there in Anchorage at a store? The average price w/o being on sale?
Here in Montana normal price per pound is 8.99
We figured it would be cheaper over there where salmon is more abundant and fresher.

I don't think I've ever bought salmon. Wouldn't know either.

I don't know that Alaska salmon really reaches the Anchorage supermarkets. I did hear a rumor about Wal*Mart carrying it but can't speak for the truth of it.
Most people in (rural) AK don't buy salmon. But there has to be some place in Anchorage you could get some--I'd look for some sort of fisherman's market.

last summer I seen it anywhere from $15-22 a pound for reds fillet and vac-packed. whole reds, unskinned right off the boat where about $5 a pound.

Alaskan salmon averages $14/lb at Trader Joe's in our neck of the woods. Most other salmon is dyed red & comes from Chile of all places.

I checked and Anchorage has 4 or 5 Fred Meyer, 3 Safeways.
and in checking their prices on the websites the pricing in Anchorage for foodstuff is about the same that we pay here in Montana. We expected it to be alot higher but we really won't be seeing any difference in our grocery bill when we get there.

Household cost saving on electric and heating is good. then spend more on food. Oil heat in Nome is only at $700 per year. yes indeed.

Salmon? Never bought it in the stores. I have about 60 vacuum packed filets left in the freezer...had about 100 last fall.
I actually don't know anyone that does buy salmon at the store.
