Almost sounds like a true Alaskan already, overloaded vehicle towing a trailer. LOVE IT!

Not starting a war or stirring up trouble but that is going to be way overloaded and the wind resistance with the canoe and a trailer. That will not be a fun trip. I would think that either the trans is going fry or the the engine is going to overheat.
I really do wish you all the luck in the world and hope everything works out but I am worried for you.
God bless and I hope all goes well.

1/3 of the way
In 3 days J has gone 1,450 miles and is resting in a hotel 8 in Crookston, Minnesota. He says the car and trailer are doing fine, no overheating even when he was going up a long hill. He is keeping the car to 55 mpr on the highways so not to over tax the car. Colby (the lab) is doing well but not as anxious to jump into the car as he was. I took pictures of them the morning they left but I am using a borrowed laptop and it will not upload my pictures from my camera. My friend was nice enough to loan me the laptop so I don't want to mess with it. I will have to wait until I get to Anchorage to use our computer to post the pictures. I ,and Spike the cat, will be flying from Bradley to Denver on the 23rd where we will visit a friend for a few days and the we will fly to Anchorage on the 27th. Hmm, did I already post that Guess it's bedtime, I'm repeating myself.

The fun is about to begin. Mention to him to watch for critters on the road in northwest Canada! Big critters.

Glad to hear that the car is holding up well. Have a great trip and I look forward to the pics when you get here. Hurry up...we are having one of the best summers ever (a little hazy right now though).

You are right. My apologies. I will post in a separate thread to update everyone...don't want to hijack this one.

Day 5
John has made it to Lloydminster, Saskatchewan (that name is a mouthful). Passed the 1/2 way mark He sounds tired, I told him to take it easy, maybe take a day off from driving. I doubt he will, once he starts he just wants to get there.
I'm still packing and making dump and donation runs. This house is like the story of the magic pitcher, no matter how much pours out of it, it never gets empty! I've got 5 days to finish. Our son is flying into NH for a conference and I am driving up to see him on the 17th and then drop another load off at the Maine house. He lives in Oregon where he and his wife are working on their PHDs at Oregon State. I only get to see them about twice a year so I don't want to miss this chance. Now that we are not locked into a teaching schedule hopeing to visit more and get them up to Anchorage. They love Alaska. Well, back to packing and cleaning. There has to be an end to it somewhere!
