Default My Turn!

Everything is finally packed! Tomorrow I have to clean the house from top to bottom, Mail boxes to AK, return borrowed laptop, make a last dump run, packup the cat and my suitcase, gas up the car and drive 2 1/2hrs to John's dads house in CT. He lives 15 min. from Bradley Airport and I will be staying the night and parking my car in his garage. Thursday he is driving me to the airport for a 5pm. flight to Denver to visit my friend. Three days there and then a direct flight to Anchorage. I can hardly believe it! It's been so long in coming.
I miss my guy. After 35 years I got use to having him around
I will be off line after tomorrow until I get to Anchorage on the 28th. See you there.

Default We are here and settling in!

I finally got a chance to get on the computer and down load some pictures. I hope I can attach them well. So here is condensed version of the saga of getting to AK. It took John 10 days, averaging 450mls per day, to reach Anchorage. He was on a mission and didn't stop to take very many pictures but I do have a few nice ones to post. He was exhausted but happy when he got here. He pretty much had to camp in the condo because we had brought so little. A trip to the value store helped him survive until I got here and we could shop together. Meanwhile, I was back in NY having a packing/cleaning marathon. Finally at 9:15pm on July 22 I had to say "Good Enough!". I put the cat in the carrying case, locked the doors and headed to CT. I got to my father-in-law's house at 1:30am dragged myself in, set up the litter pan and water and let poor Spike out. Fortunately, my plane didn't leave until 5pm on the 23rd so I could sleep in. I was a little nervous about flying with the cat but he never made a sound under the seat the whole trip. We had a good flight to Denver where my friend picked us up. She is a real animal person and came with a litter box and water in the back of her Subaru. We had a very nice visit for 3 days and then on the evening of the 26th she put us on a plane to Anchorage and we officially arrived at 1:30AM on the 27th. With the help of hours on Craig's list we have been able to get the condo almost completely furnished with nice things on a retired teacher's budget. I love where we are, our neighbors are really nice and helpful and I feel really at home already. Half the fun of shopping on craig's list is not only getting bargains, but having interesting conversations with the people you are buying the stuff from. You shake hands and everybody walks away happy. Last week John and I got our Alaska licenses and registered both the car and the canoe.
OK that pretty much brings us up to date so I will try and attach some pictures. John is off fishing with his buddies so I will not be able to label exactly where his pictures are, just that they were in Canada. Here goes!

Default Photos of the Geo, John & Colby AK bound

I know there is a better way to put up pictures then thumbnails but at the moment I don't know how to do it. I will try and figure it out for future postings. I added a couple of pictures of our hike up near Flat Top, Power Line Trail last weekend.
