Flying out tomorrow
We are heading back east for awhile and though we have not been here that long I feel like we are leaving home. We need to see family and check on our house in NY that we are renting. John's dad was diagnosed with lung cancer (he's 88) and my folks are in their late 80s and have health issues as well. We need to go back for a while to help out and be east for the holidays. On a happy note There will be 15 of us getting together for Thanksgiving. I have a brother in NH, my sister and family are flying up from Pittsburgh, our daughter is coming from Burlington, VT and our son and his wife are flying in from Oregon (haven't seen then since last Xmas because of our move) We will also be going to CT. to be with John's dad and brother over the holidays. We are not sure exactly how soon we can come back because of our parent's health issues but when we do we are going to do it by ROAD TRIP! Whoo Hoo! From Maine to Anchorage but his time in our Subaru and no trailer. We are planning enough time to enjoy the sights along the way. Can't wait to come back. I'll keep tabs on local goings ons through the forum. Be good or least be careful

Sorry to hear about John's dad and your parents. The Holidays sound great with getting together with your family. Have a safe trip and keep us all posted. Will the place you rented be available for you when you return?
Take care.

We will not be living in our NY house anymore. We are trying to sell that house. (The renters are thinking about buying it) I co-own a place in Maine that my parents passed on to my sister and myself. It normally was only used from the spring to fall and sat it empty all winter. From now on when we are back east that is where we will stay. It is really nice there, quiet in the winter, a 5 minute walk to the beach and the back porch looks out over the marshes. My folks bought the original little cottage back in 1957. We all worked on it and they rented it out over the summer to pay for it. About 15 years ago they divided the lot and built the year round house in the back. There is still a lot of finishing work to be done. John and I have redone houses over the years so the plan is while we are back east to work on finishing the place. Maine in the winter when the tourists are gone is also a beautiful place.

Maine is one of the few states I have always wanted to visit. I forgot you had a place there to finish. How wonderful.
Best to ya Diane.

I love the New England States and Maine is my favorite. I love the lighthouses and rugged coasts; was in my glory when we went there last year. Just wish we could have stayed longer. Sounds great where you'll be staying; bet your animals will love it also.
