oh sorry for the misunderstanding...it wasn't me and it was a couple years ago....no they didn't have the title as they did not finish paying the car off...the slime pulled this when they only owed like $200 on an original $2500. so he got the money and the car back....if it was me I would have taken a sludge hammer to the car, put sugar in the gas and total ruined it....

I would make him take the check anyway and I sure wouldn't add the 2% fee onto my bill either. I would tell him to take my check or I'll shove it up his...well you get the idea.

that was my thoughts exactly! but he'd probably add it anyway...if he's holding the title they will be doing what he wants with the 2%....hopefully there is some kind of paperwork of terms.

Don't you have to have the title to register it? It's been awhile for me.

you never never sign the title of anything over (car, land, house, guns, etc) until you receive full payment....title proves full and complete ownership......if it is a legal finance deal...you get the title when paid off....if this person has the title in hand....they could tell this scum their not pay a cent more and he could not prove anything unless they signed a financial agreement with him....hummm the tables could be turned 360 degrees! the buyer also should make sure the seller has a "clear" title to the "property" being bought....we had someone try to sell us a car that the title was held by the ex-wife and when I called her she said absolutely no he could not sell the car as she was not going to sign over the title...glad we didn't give him the money first!

I would pay with a check and not worry about his complaints. I sure wouldn't pay him any extra for the privilege of him being nasty to you and refusing a legitimate payment method.

Side note: I've never met any car dealer I like or would want within a mile of my home.
