I found decent size boxes for $1/each on Craigs List under "barter" and "garage sale". That's helpful.
But I've been buying wrapping paper and bubble wrap and some specialty packing materials from UHaul and that is starting to get pretty darn expensive.
Does anyone know of 'affordable' moving/packing materials available in the Anchorage/Mat-su area??

Plus bubble wrap and packing tape. Usually in the same section as the office supplies.

Barnes and Noble has a whole dumpster full of boxes in perfect shape. You can go in and ask them if it's ok. They let us have a whole load of them when we moved. There are lots of other places around town, call and ask, especially bookstores....we didn't pay a dime for boxes when we moved.

There is a relo company on CL that was saying they would give you free packing material if you let them quote you a move. They also ghave the tip that furniture stores and auto body part places tend to have a lot of packaging material for packing stuff. If you check it out, let us know how it went.

I once got all my moving boxes from a liquor store, which I'm sure made a great impression on my new neighbors. You can get boxes from just about any store around. Go to a grocery store late in the evening or whenever they're stocking shelves and they'll probably give you a ton of them.

Yes, liquor stores, strong boxes. Had not thought of book stores, but really makes sense. And, that way they don't have to break them down. And, they probably get delivery the same day each week.

Check with stores that have fragile items for bubble wrap and popcorn. I worked a floral/gift shop and we had bags of popcorn every week. We gave it to the local shipping company or whoever showed up.

Also, make a stack of your linens, towels, bedding, etc. Use those to cushion dishes, small appliances, knicknacks and such?
Happy trails,
Nan

Just to let you know, I have several boxes with the paper still in them in the garage from my move up here from Denver back in October. I keep forgetting to advertise them anywhere, but if you want, I would give you some of them. Send me a personal email and maybe we can make arrangements this week. I will be going to a village next week, so unless you do it before Sunday, it would be late next week. Let me know.
