Default Getting Away

Hey all. So here's my story. I'm from a town near Minneapolis/St. Paul right now, I just finished college, and what better way to put my degree to use than get a job as a deckhand on a boat, huh?

So that's what I'm doing, and when I get bored of that, I'm moving into Anchorage. So I'm mid 20s, and I like things most 20-somethings enjoy, bars, movies, girls... etc. Has anyone who is not an Anchorage native who moved there have any tips, warnings, advice for me (Anchorage natives I'd appreciate your input too )? I'd appreciate it!

Also, since I'm flying up, I plan on selling my vehicle, I don't think I want to drive my truck that far, poor gas mileage... so all my stuff, TV, furniture, etc... I'm assuming my best plan is to sell all that and buy new stuff up there?

Fishing is not a job in Anchorage. Homer, Dutch (Unalaska), Naknek, Dillingham, are much better places to find fishing jobs. Anchorage hasn't got a real great harbor area.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. I already have the fishing job lined up, out of Naknek. When I'm DONE fishing (however long that will be) then I'm moving to Anchorage.

Anchorage will definitely be the "in" place to be in Alaska for anyone in their 20's. Just don't wear a red ball cap. Some young dude was in the news last week: he was wearing a red ball cap, and some local gang didn't like it, some sort of "no-no" in their "rules", so they went and shot him in the stomach. He survived.

Yeah..real tough crowd. What was it like 12 guys on one. What a bunch of punks. I'd like to see them all lined up front to back...and put one bullet through all their heads.

Rance, that's why they're called "gangs". They're worthless when they're alone.
Catch them by themselves and a hard stare coupled with harsh language will send them running home to momma....
