I am looking for unique, vintage inspired and beautiful outdoor locations for my wedding aftershots. I'm thinking we will start out downtown Ypsilanti near the Train Tracks and Frog Island but I'm not real familiar with the area surrounding that.

Hoping someone could give me some starting points between that and Ann Arbor. We may possibly head over to Grosse Pointe as well. If anyone knows of any cool places they could recommend I would appreciate it

I wouldn't get too carried away with the scenery for wedding pictures. The focus should be on the couple, bridal party, and family, not the interesting buildings in the background. As long as you have a green background (trees & bushes), you can have beautiful pictures. I've seen pictures taken in small suburban backyards that turned out perfect.

Also, I wouldn't go all the way from Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti to Grosse Pointe (and back I presume). Why waste an hour to an hour and a half just driving?

Frog Island Park or Riverside Park (just to the south) on the Huron River in Ypsilanti should be more than adequate for pictures. For access to Riverside Park, there is a small parking lot north of Michigan Avenue and west of the river, accessed through an alleyway that is easy to miss.

(Just my opinion.)

Thanks.

Yes I agree, Grosse Pointe is not worth it so we are going to stay in the Ann Arbor area. Were planning on Frog Island but I'm still interested in finding cool architechture though.

Well, Ypsilanti has the second largest historic district in the state. There are many well-maintained Victorian homes, buildings and churches. Don't know how comfortable I'd feel showing up with a bridal party to take pictures without getting prior permission from the owners though.

It'll be just us, the bride and groom. Our wedding was 2 weeks ago and this is an aftershots session that came with our photography package. We have 4 hours of shooting time for the 2 of us anywhere we want to go. Pretty nice to have a 2nd chance to get pictures in a much more relaxed session.

Island Park in Ann Arbor is a wonderful spot as well. I have been to both I would say Frog Island is equally good. Kerrytown also has some very cool vintage architecture its near Island park, I would say both places are equally good I am just giving you more ideas. If you have time check them both out before your shoot and see which you like better, another Idea kind of between Ypsi and Kerrytown (Ann Arbor neighborhood) is Lilly Park I would say that place is really interesting and beautiful, its on the corner of Ellsworth and Platt. Good Luck.

Second Island Park -- isn't that where the "Grecian" outdoor structure is at? On the river, below/near the medical center?
