My son (fresh out of college) just got a job over in Ann Arbor. Finding an apartment is not easy around there. Can anybody tell me about the Arbor Knoll apartments off of Highway 12? I think it used to be called Arbor Glen. Is this a decent area to live in? Any comments about Ann Arbor or Yspilanti would be appreciated. Thanks.

That's actually Pittsfield Township (they don't have a post office so everything either has an Ypsilanti or Ann Arbor address), and Highway 12 is Michigan Avenue.

The general area is nice enough - it's your typical run-of-the-mill sprawling suburb. There's a Meijer, Target and Walmart within 5 minutes, Briarwood Mall in Ann Arbor is also close for everything else, you have freeway access close by,and Pittsfield Township is fairly safe.

I don't know anything about Arbor Knoll though, but it looks like a typical apartment complex with a lot of EMU/UM students, which can come with problems. It would probably be a decent place for him to live for a year or 6 months depending on his lease, and then move onto something more stable as he gets to know the area.

It might not hurt for him to ask his employer or coworkers for suggestions on apartments if he hasn't already.

I was in the area today, so I decided to do a drive-by. It's definitely in a more rural area, and the traffic is pretty bad. The complex looks well-maintained and it seems clean and quiet. I was probably wrong about it being mostly students - it's kind of far away from the campuses and I don't think the buses go out that far, either.

You also might want to check out the Pines of Cloverlane right down the street (Highway 12/I-94)

My brother works in Ann Arbor - graduated from college a year or so ago and lives in that complex. Its full of young professionals/college students. The rent is pretty cheap compared to AA prices (600 for a one bedroom) and it has a 24 hr fitness center/tennis courts etc. Pretty nice - I was out playing tennis with him this Sunday.

Avoid the pines!! Major crime issues mainly car thefts. Pittsfield township police department actually gave arbor knoll pretty good ratings when I contacted them. I may be moving to that complex in the fall . It seems pretty nice.

The complex is fine. The units are in good shape and it's a safe place.
