Just wondering if anyone out there has built this home (Piedmont House - Philip Franks | Southern Living House Plans). We purchased our home from the original owner, who had it custom-made based on this floor plan by architect Philip Franks. They made some changes and we are considering the sunroom addition that SL has in the floorplan.

Default house location

There is one of these homes in Greenville, NC on Marlbough or Marlboro Lane? Road? Can't remember the spelling. It has the brick front and the sunroom and it's nice. It was built in the 80s.

onevthoki...

Did y'all ever add the sun room? My parents built this house in 1988, and my husband and I live there now. My parents did not add the sun room, but rather built a deck from where the sun room would start all the way past the office/laundry room area. They did also add the deck off the master bedroom as well. My husband and I have been toying with the idea of sometime in the future, taking off half the deck and adding the sun room that's in the original plans in order to have a den/living space off the kitchen. Mainly so I'm not banned to the bedroom to watch my tv shows when he has a football marathon Saturday/Sunday. Haha. Please let me know if y'all have added or are planning to add, and if you've run into any difficulties adding the addition after the fact. Will look forward to hearing from you! Thanks!

Normally, when I look at stock house plans, I can find all sorts of 'problems' within a few seconds. But this one doesn't have anything I find immediately or substantially 'objectionable'. It's actually pretty darn okay....*great* compared to most stock plans.

Update... We are the final stages of the addition and can hopefully post updated pics soon! Ended up being a little more than a sunroom. We did a 22x22 addition, totally taking the rear wall out, and gutted the kitchen and HVAC system.

When the home was originally built, there was only one heat pump for the whole house. We have now dual-zoned the house and put in a heat pump on the top level and a heat pump with gas back-up on the second level (all new duct work too!).

Part of the remodeled kitchen was expanded into the kitchen and I LOVE it! Looks like the only way we will leave this house is when they carry us out in a pine box!

A possible problem is getting groceries from your vehicle to the kitchen. There is no garage in this plan and coming through the front door seems a little lengthy and meandering.

Our home has a garage. The original owners modified the home to include a garage. It is a rear-entry with the door leading into the laundry room, right off of the kitchen. I'll try and post a link for a virtual tour in the next day or so!
