Can't have this thread without the mecca of ruin porn (that sounds a bit derogatory doesn't it?) Could probably spend days here.

Detroiturbex.com

Also here's a few of mine. Urban decay is pretty abundant in Detroit as many people know, but I try not to take too many pictures of it since it's what everybody already has seen. I've never gone inside any of the places but then I don't really feel a need to.

Next door.

^^^ The only building not vacant is the white one on the right side.

^^^ This is from inside a cemetery in case you're wondering.

Great photos! Abandoned places have a mysterious aura usually and it is interesting to think especially with the houses why it was abandoned and how former residents may have lived and also the tranquility of theses places. Urban exploration and structure hacking deserve more attention.

Wawa and other communities in Northern Ontario have a lot of abandonned buildings along the highways, mostly motels but also some gas stations and restaurants.

Here's something I came across today.

Kinda spooky.

There's a link to a flickr page of these pics on that blog. The images are larger and clearer there. It looks like something out of a Nine Inch Nails music video. Hard to believe these pics aren't staged, they're seriously un-real.

Here are a couple of interesting links.

Grandeur Lost: The Modern Ruins of Abandoned Detroit
I saw a documentary about an African American woman who went throughout the city of Detroit and took
some of those pictures. How very sad to see. Within 100 years one of American's finest cities
and now we see ruins of its former splendor. It reminds me of some science fiction novels and films.
This is where we need urban pioneers to invest as well as historic preservationists.
