Hello, currently I have 1 x 8 tongue and groove cedar for my soffits that are about 30 inches wide. To re-do my entire house would be expensive if I stuck with cedar, looking for other material ideas that would look ok with such wide soffits. Also we are prone to termites so I dont think I should use pine

Pressure treated plywood.

But, why do you want to redo the whole house? why not just repair what needs it?

The 1 x 8s are all kind of splintered and chewed away by the termites (Ive since killed them off). I wonder if the plywood would look too plain is all ? how could I dress it up

All of it? All around the house?

Honestly, termites in a soffit would be very unusual since they come up from the ground and thus usually do their damage starting at ground level. If you have extensive termite damage in the soffits, what's keeping the rest of the house standing up?

If it were me I would go around and actually count how many boards actually need to be replaced. I'll bet the cost of replacing only the boards that actually need to be replaced will be a lot less than ripping the whole thing out and re-doing it.

Why wouldn’t you go with vinyl or aluminum perforated soffits ?

That is what I was thinking too. Seems silly to replace everything if just a few pieces are damaged. Also odd that the soffits were damaged by termites. They are high up on the house and termite come from the ground. Was there other damage done to the structure? Jay

Its a stone house and it had a bad termite issue inside (before I bought it) and when we did major remodel we found termites in the rafters so we figured they had to climb up and go thru the soffits which are in very poor shape anyways.

They are currently 1 x 8 tongue and groove but not sure if theyre cedar or not

If it’s a stone house and you’d like to stick with a traditional material (not perferated vinyl) than you could use a fiber cement product like a Hardie Board that termites would not enjoy while it would provide a wood board appearance.

I agree about not using vinyl, I had considered hardie board but dont you need special saws/blades to cut

That is what we replaced our compressed sawdust siding & sofit veneer with 10 years ago.
