OK So I went and looked. $110,000 buys you 20,000 s.f. with classrooms, office, library, gymnasium, kitchen, great hall baptismal pool (is it sacreligious to swim in a baptismal pool?) Built in 1910, an incredibly beautiful building. Parking for over 100 cars. NEw Ac, alarm system (necessary). The building is stuning. Stained glass all over (not broken!). It even has a tower where you cna keep an armed sentry to protect the place (needed). All within 5 miles of my office. I just need to get my family accepted as a church in order to maintain tax exempt status.

A gymnasium - how cool is that?

Plus even after putting a couple of hundred thousand into restoration we could still put away several hundred thousand to cover heating, taxes, and maintenance, before we got the to the cost of a house even near as neat. Imagine the parties you could have. "I am inviting 550 people to a party in my living room"

YES! How cool is that? Also the distinction of living in a purposed building.

You can start a restaurant ala "Alice's" a multi level living space with lofts and open stair cases.

And yes, have some wonderful parties.

On the downside, the tower is necessary to hold your armed guard and the gymnasium necessary because you would not want to let your kids play outside. Maybe after putting up a 12' fence topped with razor wire and installing that sniper the tower.

Notwithstanding that, I still think it would be neat.

I have seen some listed for sale. We saw one in rural nw Ohio cheap!

Sorry, but I would find it a creepy experience. Services for the deceased may have been held there, which creeps me out.

Of course, a person could always buy an old church and start a religion or congregation.

I think condos are a mistake unless the church is in the middle of a thriving city or in a college town that demands apartments. The square footage is the key. Think outside the box. Call me. Steven Fabiani
