Nice photos, George!
I'm the same as you in that I would rather take pictures of just about anything more than people when I travel. People also ask why I'm not in any of the photos I show them. I tell them that's why I'm a photographer -- so I don't have to BE in any photos.
Now that I have grandchildren, I'm getting a bit more into people pictures, but I still don't like it. Maybe when they get older, pose nice and sit still.

You two are not alone I prefer to be the photographer as well but do you find that there is always one person in a crowd that either a . allows their child to step into the picture or b. they step into the picture without even thinking . Then I have had some really nice folks to hold their kids back and avoid them stepping in the photo .
This photo is the Ringling brothers museum in Sarasota florida .

George, one technique I've seen for getting people out of a photo, if you have a tripod, is to take as long an exposure as possible while people walk in and out, it can essentially remove the people but the exposure has to be very long.

Here are a couple of of architectural photos. The first is my favorite shot to make you think, it is a place called "Valley of Temples" in Sicily, where a series of Greek ruins are located across a narrow valley from a modern city. It's a cool contrast.

Here are a couple shots from the rooftop tour at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville NC.
