Yup, basically the thread was hijacked and Searcher521 was just confused.

OP...about 15 years ago we spent a week on top of 4-peaks..not sure what it's like now, the only other person we saw was a guy that had to go to the other side of the mountain to watch Babylon 5...we were extra cautious after that...There is hiking but wear long pants and sleeves, manzanita wood is great up there. We made a small fire to cook on, not sure if that's allowed now...found bobcat tracks or something similar just below camp...was scary going up the mountain...it is near Roosevelt Res or Lake if I remember right... Find a road to where you think you might want to be and take it! Bring lots of water Pack out trash

We camped up at Soldier creek on Mt Graham a couple of years ago...absolutely beautiful...9000 ft elevation, and if you go during the week there are very few campers around.
AND it had some of the best bathrooms...toilets actually flushed.

There are some great hikes nearby.
Ash creek ...catch some brookies in the creek.
Webb peak...a real nice old fire tower there...over 10,000 ft elevation and the views are spectacular.
Clark peak trail...
Not to mention Riggs lake just a few mile down the road...take a fishing rod.
Just be careful of the caves down below the campground....got trapped in one when I was a teenager...my own stupid fault.
(They will probably put "I thought it was a good idea at the time" on my tombstone.)
A friend had to get some climbers to come and help me out.

Simple porta potties are readily and inexpensively available at most camping supply stores.

And without a fire pit (built by the Forest Service) you probably are not going to be able to have a fire.

You could also attach a toilet seat to a botomless chair.

You can have fires at dispersed campsites, you just need a fire ring.

Like Searcher521 said, there is a ban on campfires except in developed campgrounds on the Tonto and Cococino. Parts of the Tonto are expecting to expand that to any fires at all (including charcoal grills), although it hasn't happened yet. They have extra patrols out to make sure everyone knows and is complying. Just an FYI.

Those are the current restrictions, which should be lifted sometime this week, most likely before the OP goes camping.

Not on the Tonto. I wouldn't expect restrictions to lift until we receive copious amounts of rain and since the monsoons haven't even begun, I doubt that will happen this week. Like I said, they have been mulling over having a total ban, not lifting any. They are expecting a big fire season this year and are being extremely careful.
