Are the majority of illegal aliens "drug smugglers"? (house, school)

"I believe today, under the circumstances that we're facing, that the majority of the illegal trespassers that are coming into the state of Arizona are under the direction and control of organized drug cartels and they are bringing drugs in," Brewer said.
Asked to explain her remarks, Gov Brewer's office said, in effect, "Well, the illegals are being brought in by coyotes, who are part of the cartels, so, that makes them, um, drug smugglers...in a manner of speaking"
I assume most of you who support SB 1070 find Brewer's remarks as troubling as I do. They do not help the cause. I don't live in AZ- is this typical of Brewer's reasoning abilities?
To be quite honest, Jan Brewer reasons as well as a dog. The sad thing is, everyone elected to represent AZ on a State and Federal level, are about as smart as Koko the Gorilla.
Jon Kyl reported that Obama told him, "We will let the border problem escalate, so that we can get reform passed." First of all I don't believe much of what Kyl says, but yeah, that's how the Feds solve problems. Enrage people.
It's ugly out here.
AND NO, most illegal immigrants are not drug pushers. I'd bet maybe 1% would be a stretch.
Until the COUNTRY stops electing dim-witted ideologues would be more like it. Just because you've gotten a university to issue a diploma does not mean you're educated nor particularly smart.
I'd much rather have a person with an 8th grade education and LOTS of common sense and life education than a rhodes scholar who's NEVER been in the real world but lived in the sheltered life of a university.
This constantly pointing at her lack of formal education seems to smack of eliteism don't you think? (Holding pinky out while taking a sip of coffee, then placing pipe thoughtfully back in mouth )
Oh btw, I have my GED (no college degree) as well and before I retired I was the lead in a network dept where everyone else had a college degree and made less than me.
Another example, I've got a friend who's owned/operated his own appliance company for the last 30 years or so and only has a 6th grade "formal" education.
well said. perhaps people can take a lesson from another person that never went to college, his name was dave thomas. for those of you who dont know he started a neat little hamburger stand called wendys. as stated education doesnt mean squat with out experience. one also needs the ability to look beyond ones ideology and see the bigger picture.

it is more than just the border issue that is showing obamas incompetence, add the mishandling of the economy, and the oil spill problem, and his lack of ability to stop campaigning and blaming the previous administration for everything. he has been in office for 18 months now, and he needs to take responsibility for these things rather than place blame on others.

first jan brewer may not have the education you think she should have, but i think she is doing fine being a leader unlike president obama with all his vaunted education.
second i trust john kyle far more than i would obama and his cronies.
third brewer said that most illegal immigrants are drug smugglers not pushers, there is a huge difference. for those of you who dont know, a smuggler just transports illegal items from place to place, where as a pusher sells those items.

Sassy, BUSH wanted to cut a deal to grant amnesty to Mexican immigrants too. This is not a GOP vs Dems issue- this is a battle for power and influence. Everyone is complicit.
Ironically enough, I've always thought Mexicans were more inclined to be Republicans than Democrats. I'm generalizing here, but the ones I grew up around (lived in SoCal all my life) have been politically conservative- hard-working, family oriented, anti-gang, anti-drugs, religeous- mainly Catholic of course, but a large number of Evangelicals too.
The GOP is missing the boat here. Bush knew that, but by the time he'd got around to pushing "Immigration Reform" (which inevitably will include an amnesty component, no matter who proposes it), he lacked the political leverage to carry it off.
If the Right in this country would pull its head out, weed out the racists still pervasive in its ranks, and quit demogoging the Immigration issue for short-term gain, they might be pleasently surprised. Just ask the ghost of Pete Wilson (yes, I know he's alive, but he might as well be dead)
Sorry for the long post...

you know that is really great you were able to do that with just a GED and i know many people including my parents who were able to make a great living without a high school diploma, however you can not do that in todays world. you have to have at least a high school diploma and those who dont get very very lucky, especially with the way things are today, you have college graduates competeing for jobs that those without a college degree or a high school diploma are applying for and who do you think will get the job? the college educated even if they are over qualified for the job. youcant evn join the military without a high school diploma, if you have a GED you have to have some college credits with it before they take you. a college degree is nothing to make fun of, its more than holding pinky out garbage. in a university they make you go out and get experience with internships so that you do have experience.
From what I have been told by various people from Mexico is that it's hard not to get involved in the drug trade, they will attempt to recruit you right off the street, and sometimes force you to do it.
this is just my opine . here we have a POOR illegal crossing the border . if he is so poor ,how can he afford the coyotes fee of guiding him across the border ? master card?visa? amex? or just maybe he pays off his fee by being a mule and bringing a few kilos of drugs across with him .
you are right, there are loaws still on the books that seemingly have no rhyme or reason to be, for instance it is illegal to hunt camels here in arizona. at one time there was good reason for the law though. that doesnt mitigate the fact that camel hunting is still illegal in arizona. while i also agree that most illegal immigrants are not drug traffickers or human smugglers, THEY ARE STILL HERE ILLEGALLY, and need to be dealt with according to the law.
one thing you have to understand is that illegal means they broke the law. if you were to cross into mexico illegally, and were caught, you can bet that the mexican government would enforce their immigration laws to the letter, but somehow this country cannot do the same thing?
you want to make camel hunting legal??? i have no problem with it being legal.
i used to think most crossing the boarder were not smugglers until a previous poster pointed out that there is a good chance they agree to smuggle just to pay for getting help across the border. how else are they going to pay to get across???? if they had money they would stay in mexico.
Isn't it interesting how Spot puts so much emphasis on Jan Brewer's education in spite of so many unanswered questions relating to Obama's education? Nothing against education, however, Jan Brewer's actions and respect for the citizens of Arizona have proven Logic and Common Sense prevail here.
Far too many politicians are blinded by their personal agendas rather than representing their constituents.
i agree with you and sassy...we need something that will motivate politicians to do the right thing, re-election be damned! term limits for congress, not sure what to do about a president...
Until the AZ voters stop electing dim-witted ideologues, and start insisting that their leaders are better informed and more capable things are quite likely to continue to get worse there.
Come to California. We spend a lot more money on education, but don't have any more to show for it. We have plenty of well educated but equally dim witted left wing ideologues here who are no more effective than the uneducated ones.
IMO, a big part of the problem we have in America is rigid ideological thinking, both on the left and the right.
