[quote=Allieloopy;15729262]My husband will NOT miss mowing the lawn. I know he would get more into landscaping with desert materials, he loves that, just not mowing it!quote]

Someday, I will add up all the extra free time I have now that I don't have to:
Take the 300 pounds of weight out of my pickup and store it,
Change the tires on all my vehicles to summer tires,
Fix the winter damage to the lawn and landscaping,
Get all the "summer" items out of the garage and onto the lawn,
mow the yard, mow the yard, and mow the yard,
Put all the "summer" items back in the garage,
Change the tires on all my vehicles to snow tires,
put the 300 pounds of weight back in my pickup,
snowblow the driveway,
shovel the sidewalk,
go get sand to spread on the icy driveway,
spread sand on the icy driveway,
spend 2,500 per year on fuel oil to heat the house,

No wonder I have time to be on CD

be prepared when you say you can handle heat. It is one thing to live with heat for 2 months (95-100, as it gets in the Midwest), it is quite another to live with it for 6 months, year after year after year. And 120 is 120, dry heat or not.
Quite a bit of exaggeration there....

I spent last Jan-May in Lake Havasu City. I miss the mountains way more than trees.

Being back in N Illinois all I can think is soon the trees will be changing color. Some folks love this. Me, all I see is a dead tree that I have to clean up after. And then the beautiful monochromatic winter will hit, making me park my motorcycle for 6 months not to mention ruining my car with all the salt.

On a brighter note, this will be the last winter I'll be spending in Illinois. If I really need to look at a tree, I'll make mine a Palm.

sure... it would be nice to have more nice trees and trimmed grass and flowers here in kingman.... but we just don't have enough people that will do what is necessary to do that... and it takes water that we can afford. (perhaps a re-claimed water system for the plants...) at least in 20 minutes we can stand in a nice small forest. and with a 2 hour drive we're in a big forest. we do have nice senic desert vistas all around us!

But it's nice think of a year without the bitter cold everydayness of winter.

Shoot, if I stay inside as much as I can during the winter here I guess I'll probably stay in the air there! I know that winter can be beautiful and all but just not to me. I will appreciate it from afar. In pictures.

I do have allergies here, I have sinus problems that plague me for months every winter and spring. That worries me, I would hate to feel worse and not be able to move again for a long time.

I can't wait till next year so I can see how the area feels to us.

A lot of people have or develop allergies out here, but they do seem to even off. Mine were bad for 3-4 years and then they got almost hardly noticeable. And, using a netti pot every day will help.

That is so funny. We were just cleaning off the porch today and found a bag of salt that was left over from winter. (I know, we procrastinate a bit!) We just looked at each other and put it back on the porch. We'll need it soon enough.

I've just started using a netti pot this week. It's not the most pleasant feeling, especially when it goes down the wrong way!

Every year it takes until about the end of July before I feel like the heat is finally seeping into my bones. I feel all melty and more relaxed the hotter it gets. Right now it's beautiful in MI and I can't wait to see the trees light up this fall, but I know that it will be cold and grey wintertime soon. Time to dig out the Snuggies and fuzzy slippers.

Well, hopefully not too much longer!
