Today I happened to drive through a couple of towns I hadn't before (they're pretty much merged) and I thought they were very cute if you don't need to make a living - Showflake & Taylor. Both were very clean and well maintained. There were hanging flower baskets in Snowflake and big flower pots in Taylor along the main drag (which is SR 77). There were also some very nice Victorian buildings. I just got a great feeling driving through them - very cozy and pleasant!

Heck, even McD's is cool!

Hmm, now I see it may be heavily Mormon-influenced, which many not be everybody's cup of tea...

Great pictures, Sierra . . . thanks for sharing.

What made you drive up there? Thinking about moving?

I'm not sure what you're talking about... Are you referring to the pics I posted or to Sierra Vista? If the latter, there have been many threads about it.

Glad you like it, too, guys. These are not my pics obviously, but I just wanted to show people what it looks like.

Move there, Bummer? How would I feed myself up there? Besides, it’s too small and remote for me. I took a little road trip (well, almost 1K miles ) and went to Canyon de Chelly - hadn't visited before. Since I stayed in Holbrook, I drove through Snowflake on the way back.

Man, the Navajos have it good! Tucson can only dream of their perfect roads (it can dream of their schools, too)! Perfect smooth black asphalt and not a hole in sight! There were a lot of "holes" on the gorgeous (and in great shape) mountainous road from Show Low to Globe, but they were of the "as@" type... Making it out of there in one piece is an accomplishment! Obviously they don't care for anybody else, but why you would want to kill yourself in order to make it somewhere a few minutes earlier is totally beyond me! You can get killed around every curve and not know what hit you...

Hahahaha!! Did you take the "Desert to Tall Pines" Scenic Road, or is there another terrible mountain road out there nearby? Trust me, it is not that we don't want people visiting--there isn't money to pave it! Just drove the north have yesterday to go buy groceries and run errands. Actually, the road is worse than normal (the north half at least) because of all the Labor Day traffic. I'm hoping they grade it soon.

Anyhow, the south road (Young to Globe) has to be one of the prettiest drives in the SW--if you aren't afraid to look out across those curvy dropoffs!

I was talking about SR 77 from Show Low to Globe. There's nothing wrong with the road - it's in a perfect condition.

Oh, once I took some back road for "variety"... Well, I wasn’t alone at the time, but it was still a quite insane idea! It shot off I-10 somewhere around Wilcox maybe and ended up at some Meadows... and then Greer... if I remember correctly. That was something else! Good luck to anybody breaking down there! It's as remote and winding as it gets!
