Oh YA....There is something ...OUT THERE!!!!
Yes....actually THERE IS SOMETHING GOING ON...and THERE ARE MANSIONS along RIGGS RD going out toward Ellsworth and connecting with HUNT Highway. There are homes between 5-10 million dollars ( see last Sundays January 14th 2008 - Real Estate Section on the CASTLE LIFE IN GILBERT - not sure of the ad but it was front page and went on for several pages) that have there own manmade water ski resort competition lake and several developments that spark homes over the 2-3 million dollar mark along the way. Then you have the Seville Golf and Country club with homes around 400,000 (some less and many more). You then go aways down to Hunt and Boom you are back down to 120-300,000. Is there something going on..heck ya! Home Depot - Walmart SuperCenter - Lowes..dont just plop down in the middle of no - mans land. Take it from this investment coach.......watch out!!!! I would not go all the way out to Florence but there is a heck of a lot worth looking at on the way. Be sure to check our fissure maps and also do your homework. Traffic on Hunt is a joke ( to put it mildly and one day it took us 10 minutes to turn off out of one of these new developments onto the highway there was so much going on out there - but look for Rd expansion plans coming soon! Check out the County minutes for further information!

I understand how you feel about old Florence not being very nice. I myself would have never moved here in a million years, or so I thought. After several years of commuting over an to work, my husband and I decided to move closer. I did not want to live in Florence it self but when my husband brought me to see that the town had expanded its city limits and all the new development on Hunt Highway my mind chaged quickly! We now live in Anthem at Merrill Ranch and absolutely love it! The community is on Hunt Highway about 10 miles from old florence and the Johnson Ranch area is about 10 miles up Hunt highway towards Queen Creek. The community of Anthem is very nice! There is a community center that has a water park, pools, rock climbing wall, state of the art gym, basketball court, tenniss courts, volleyball courts and tons of activities and classes for all ages! There is a catch and release pond that just opened a few months ago and a huge community park going in that should be completed soon. There is a skate park going in for the kids and sports feilds. The Safeway just opened in October and also has a cafe and a Star Bucks inside! Radio Shack and McDonalds just opened last month. There is a Chen's Chinese resturant, A&M Pizza, Dental Office, All state and much more going into the shopping centers around Safeway here in Anthem.
About 10 miles up Hunt highway, in Johnson Ranch there is many more resturants, family urgent care and other medical offices, frys grocery store, super Wal-Mart and a Home Depot is being built as we speak. The town of Florence is definetly growing & changing for the better!

DOn't know the area, not from the area but looking for a vacation home in Florence because of the reasonable prices. How are the golf courses? The Oasis would be the course I would be playing the most. I find it rather humourous with the "love it or hate it" mentality of Florence. You are 60+ miles to Phoenix which must have a ton of stuff to do. So in Florence you could be right next to the golf course, put an inground pool in the backyard and then I would have my vacation destination.

Do you mean the mall going up (and I think done, at least in part) right off the freeway by CG? I don't think that is going to promote growth or significant change in Florence at all. Anthem at Merrill Ranch and the amenities there, as they expand, are much closer to Florence than that mall.
Florence itself is pleasant little old town, as was stated just upthread, and will stay that way. (I've lived there and in CG in the past, so I do speak from experience) Anthem Merrill Ranch is much newer and is good for the county in general in terms of growth, but that development is not Florence as such.

The Poston Butte golf course in Anthem Merrill Ranch is fantastic! Its a Troon managed course and though I haven't played the course myself (I can't even putt properly, let alone play 18 holes) I have heard many people speak highly of it. They have very reasonable rates as well. If you haven't been to their website, you can find a lot more about it there (pricing, pictures, hours, etc)
