Default Minimum Hours Paid for Work?

I am having trouble find the law regarding the minimum hours paid for coming in on your day off. I know the law used to state that you were to be paid a minimum of 4 hours for coming on for a non-scheduled shift.

A friend of mine was called into work twice last week, worked for an hour and was then sent home since it was slow. He should have been paid for 8 hours total, but was only paid for 2 hours and they're refusing to pay him more.

They can call you in for 3 hours, 2 hours, or whatever they want, and are only required to pay hourly workers time & a half over 40 hours. They can break that up anyway they want. If you're salaried it's tough luck, they can work you as many hours a day or week without further compensation at all.

I'd say some people should be lucky they are working at all in this depleted job market.

Very well said! Honest work is something to be grateful for (particularly in this economy), rather than complaining and asking for something for nothing.

I know there is a law regarding this because he's been paid out for 4 hours. I am looking for the law, not to see if it exists.

I searched through the statures but their search function does not work well, and I am not sure how it would be worded.

What is the problem with you two? Is it your contention that someone who has worked according to their employment agreement should not be paid what they are entitled to? It should now be okay for employers to screw people out of wages owed because we are in a recession and they should be grateful for the job? That is totally ridiculous and sounds like the response from those who are not able to find a job.

If I work more than my scheduled hours I damn well want to be paid for it! For every 15 minutes extra I work when off duty I am entitled to charge for an hour. That is in my employment agreement and I see nothing wrong with making an employer comply with their own contracts.

So could it possibly be just a employer policy? Seems like they should adhere to their policies.

I am going to keep searching around to see what I can find. I am sure you guys would want to be paid what you're owed for coming on in a day off, right?

Wow, that was really constructive! What is the intellectual reasoning behind your rather childish comment? I'm sure when you posted it you must have thought it was extremely witty and intelligent.
