Default Speed Traps in Eloy on I-10 - Be Careful!!!

If you drive between Phoenix and Tucson, beware of this speed trap. Between exits 202-208 off I-10 is a major speed trap. They list this as a "construction zone" in which the speed limit drops to 65 but there is no construction or workers present. They know people are driving 75 mph or more yet the speed limit suddenly drops to 65 mph. I and two other drivers all got pulled over at the same time by 3 cops sitting in the median. My ticket was $220 for going 15 over (was driving 80 mph). You can only pay with money order...no checks or credit card. I guess the town of Eloy is hurting for money and they are using this trap to get some cash. Talk about corruption!

I drive between Phx and Tuc about once a month and have seen this "construction" zone for a couple months...it is true that widening of that stretch of I-10 to six lanes will begin soon - and I guess the signs have been put up in plenty of time!....

will be driving up to Phx tomorrow early and will check out how the construction is progressing!!

gotta say, though, that I usually drive at or very close to the speed limit in those construction zones on I-10 (don't want one of those "fines doubled" tix) - and almost everybody else roars past me...would love to see some of them nailed in person by DPS!....been seeing this speeding for the past few years as the widening of I-10 progresses from Tucson toward Casa Grande.....we need to respect the presence of the construction crews in the area (present or not!)

Offer cash to them~
I did to a federal Magistrate on a federal navy base once.
She told me they would have to have a check or some other form of payment.
I said "really? so a federal judge as such here on the base will not take the currency of the country?" Then I said "wait until I call the local papers and they find out that the federal government will take take the money they are printing.
She dismissed my charges and told me I could leave~~~please.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

I usually head over to Tucson by way of Phoenix at some point in the Fall just for a day trip and to reminisce about where I first lived after moving from California.

The thing I really cannot stand is the truckers. Even though they see you approaching in the left lane headed southeast to Tucson, they will suddenly pull in front of you to pass a slower trucker. Grr! Yes I buy some of the products they deliver. Yes I like my veggies fresh. But...Grr. Truckers, stop being rude.

Normally I put my cruise control at somewhere between 5 and 10 mph above the speed limit. But these days I stay in the right lane as much as possible to avoid being rude to the take-a-chancers-on-speeding-tickets-ers. In the right lane I put cruise control about 5mph above the speed limit. When I have to pass I put it in overdrive and don't care about speed.

Slightly off topic - but my question since getting here in 08 has been - why are we widening I 10 between CG and Tucson (not that it wasnt needed) BEFORE the stretch between CG and PHX!?

I understand and to be honest, I just didn't see the sign that claimed it was a construction zone. I know they are there but I just didn't see it. I wasn't racing or trying to be an a-hole. It's a long drive, I lost track of time. When the cop asked me if I knew the speed limit, I told her 75 and she said it was a construction zone so that it is really 65.

Basically, once you go past the Harkins Theatre/Target going south on I-10, start slowing down because a 1-2 miles past that landmark is where they start sitting in the median and pulling people over.

I took a day trip to Cochise county the other day and saw tons and tons and tons of cops in the medians all along I-10. It was crazy.
