I just got back from another drive to SoCal and got to wondering - why is it that in AZ the "City Limit" signs dont list the latest population like they do in California?

I like that little bit of information - like on this trip I noticed that Palm Springs only has an actual population of 42K, but whenever people are going to that area its always "we're going to Palm Springs" , very few people say they are going to "Desert Hot Springs". Curious.

Anyway, I ve noticed this before, but finally remembered to ask over here....

The signs had that info years ago, but not any more. I don't know why they stopped. It's up to the individual city, actually, what they want their signs to look like.

As far as why go to Maricopa --You can be in the metro area and be close to plenty of casinos. I doubt that the Amtrak station has had, or will have, any effect on the growth of the town. I've never heard anyone say that's why they moved there. Yes, if one travels to Tucson or Phoenix a lot it would be handy, but Casa Grande is easier access from the freeway, with more amenities. The main (virtually only) draw of Maricopa has been the housing prices. It will continue to be that for quite a while.
