Hi everybody! I am wondering if there are any speed cameras on AZ State Route 87 between Payon and Lake Mary.

When I drove there yesterday, everyone drove at around 80, but the speed limit is only 55... I drove at around 65 or 70... and I was the slowest one.

First, it's Payson, not Payon. Second, SR 87 goes to Winslow not Lake Mary. And last, no, there are no cameras.

Hi and welcome to CD forums. I too am generally the slowest one on any road. Your question was answered but I just wanted to welcome you to the boards and express my admiration for someone who doesn't automatically break the law just because everyone else is. ~♥~

Thank you very much! I borrowed the GPS from my friend and its default setting avoids the highway, so we took route 87 to flagstaff...

I won't do it again.... I got to know just now that speeding 20 over the speed limit may commit a felony speeding...

Just to be precise, you took 87 until you got to Clints Well (gas station, restaurant) then made a left onto FH3, more commonly known as Lake Mary Road and took that into Flagstaff. 87 went on northeast to Winslow and on to the big reservations. FH3 has some straight stretches with little traffic and no cops so people do tend to speed through there. I think some of it is 65 now too, but may be wrong. You won't generally get a ticket in rural AZ unless you are going 10 over the limit (though that is not written in stone by any means).

I find myself speeding by accident at times. Especially in a nice car, you look at the speedometer and go , I better use cruse control.

Got a nice hefty ticket when I visited Arizona in August. It was somewhere in a town called Payson while we were driving to Albuquerque. I had no idea there were camera radars in Arizona, but I do now. Since the incident my wife moved to San Tan Valley and I am on the lookout every time I visit her... There were some rumors that the camera radars will be disconnected due to some legal issues, is that true? Did it happen?

Governor Brewer had the state's speed camera program discontinued last year (God bless her). As as result, there are no more of those annoying cameras on the highways or freeways. However, individual cities & towns are still legally permitted to operate their own speed camera enforcement. You may still see some cameras on state highways ... but if it's within the jurisdiction of the city or town, it's still legal. But on freeways, speed cameras are nothing more than a memory ... or what I like to call the welcome awakening from a nightmare.
