Here's a rendering of the chimney (http://bestazemall.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/solarupdraft-ed01.jpg - broken link). There are a few big solar projects in the works. The Ivanpah project in the Mojave Desert broke ground recently despite bureaucratic tie-ups, environmental concerns and native tribal issues. Onward!

Looks like a 9th grade project, no offense to it. I suppose it will be really cool, cool enough to be in another lame Daniel Craig Bond movie where a solar farm is involved

Ironically, a lot of these large scale solar projects are catching a lot of heat from environmentalists now for ruining desert ecosystems.

As for the U.S. one day holding the record for tallest structure again, I don't think it's gonna happen. But it's fine, we're older now and more mature. Kind of like how Jay-z doesn't get in feuds anymore. Let the little kids play.

I like it, it's futuristic and solar projects are always welcomed
Arizona could become the second best state for the solar power generation after California.

Do we know the power which will be generated in MW by this chimney ?

It'll never happen. They'll never get that much capital.

I'll probably get flamed for all of this, but how many of you have ever or now live in Arizona? I know I don't right now, but I have and will again.

Also, why again does Arizona decide to give/share a resource created in Arizona to another state? Or hopefully it's more like; it's nice that AZ can export something for (hopefully) $$$, but make sure that if the need is greater in AZ, then the agreement ends.

Arizona doesn't decide anything. Money decides. I assume that LADWP and other SoCal interests have provided major funding for the project. I'm sure having access to the product was part of the deal.

Here's a link to the technology section of the company's website. Interesting artists' rendition.

A project like this might force Chicago to build the tallest free-standing pencil or baseball bat, at 2430 feet on their revered lake front!

At 2430 feet, a big revolving restaurant on the top of the chimney would be great. It would bring millions of tourists from everywhere.
