You like warm weather, eh? Warm doesnt begin to describe the temperatures here. More like insanely hot 3-4 months of the year.

What we're trying to say is: its HOT in Arizona. For extended periods of time too. I suggest you visit the area in teh summer and make sure its what you want. Because once summer rolls around, its intensely hot for months at a time, every year, like clockwork. Some people like it, some people hate it. I cant handle it, and I admit it. Youre making a big move, so just be sure to do extensive research and extensive visits in the summer.

You mentioned "warm", well we do have warm periods, and we also have days where the morning temperature drops below freezing, which we had in the middle of January this year, but from the middle of May until late Septermber and sometimes early October, you're going to get a lot more than "WARM"!
Just as Steve-O mentioned, if you want to move to the desert areas of Arizona, you might want to really think about it, because it's not a place for everybody. High temperatures during the day in June, July, August and September are not exactly like what you're used to in Germany. If you want mild temperatures in the summer, then Flagstaff, Prescott or any of the mountain communities above 4500 feet in elevation might be more ideal for you. But if you don't mind the 115 degree high temperatures in July, then you shouldn't have any problems living in Tucson. The good thing about the Arizona desert regions is there's no humidity, and little if any. The only time it gets somewhat humid here is during the monsson, which can run from mid July through mid September. Typically, late July and the entire month of August.
You can't beat the weather from October until mid May though.

Umm, major culture shock. This "city" embodies the worst of American "culture." The only place I've found (on this west side of the country) that might approximate Europe is San Francisco. I did live in Spain and traveled to other countries. This is definitely NOT European.
Why don't you go to Spain? It's much nicer. They have all kinds of northerners on the Malaga coast.

"movin 'on" is correct wih his comment about the "culture" thing. And Phoenix is actually, often HOTTER than Riyadh! Usually Tucson is about 5 degrees cooler than Phoenix, so be prepared to bake yourself as if you were in an oven, OR stay inside most of the time. If that's what you want- come on over!

No, and I appreciate your comments, but it really is important to prepare a European for the deal here. I almost was ready to give up my U.S. citizenship to reside in Spain.
It goes far beyond the heat. It's a totally different way of living. Europe is distinct.
Therefore, it's especially important to warn a person as to what they are in for here.
P.S. Why does anyone on any Internet forum assume I am a he? I am a she. Yikes. Is it just because I am so smart, or what is the deal? I don't get it. Men do perceive men to be all knowing, or dominant, or worthy of opinions, but it always happens to me when I post a gender neutral post. (Although to be fair, I do have an MBA and speak a foreign language).

Personally, Elisa, I love living in Tucson.
Granted it gets hot during July and August (why not, it is Summer) with regular thunder storms late afternoons and early evenings. However, the other ten months are near perfect with lots of sun and very low humidity. Due to the higher elevation (just under 3k feet) even when it hits the 90's during the day we usually are blessed with cool to even cold evenings.
Other than during the monsoons, we have very few bugs and/or other critters.
There are no absolute perfect places to live but I'll tolerate July and August so I can enjoy the remaining ten "close to perfect" months. Not easy to say that about many places on this earth.
Granted Tucson is a "cowtown" and I agree with the other posters that there isn't a great deal of "culture" here but Phoenix is only about 90 miles away if and when necessary.
I accept the small town atmosphere as refreshing and comforting.
Good Luck and I sure hope this helps a little.
