I'll answer my own question here, just to let others know that Pierce is NOT the only person involved in this.
Politicians who received all-expense paid trips from Fiesta Bowl
October 2005 trip to Chicago:
Sen. Linda Aguirre (Democrat)
Sen. Robert Blendu (Republican)
Sen. Russell Pearce (Republican)
Rep. Linda Lopez (Democrat)

October 2008 trip to Boston:
Sen. Robert Blendu (Republican)
Rep. David Bradley (Democrat)
Rep. Rich Crandell (Republican)
Rep. Linda Lopez (Democrat)
Rep. David Lujan (Democrat)
Rep. Robert Meza (Democrat)
Sen. Russell Pearce (Republican)
Rep. Michelle Reagan (Republican)
Sen. Thayer Verschoor (Republican)

2009 trip to Dallas:
Sen. Russell Pearce (Republican)
Rep. Linda Lopez (Democrat)

Gee Linda Lopez sure pops up in here a lot. Isn't she the minority whip?

Pearce has now denied that he took any free tickets. Said he paid for them. Case closed.

This news isn't surprising in the least. Arid-zona is the place that sprouted Evan Mecham, Azscam, and so many other wonderful politics and other controversies. Some of the outrageous actions in the legislature alone are enough to make Arid-zona the laughingstock of the country once again.

Yeah just like he wasn't in line to get kickbacks in the Prison Scam.

I don't understand why the Fiesta Bowl felt it necessary to bribe these politicians with trips and tickets. Who in the legislature is opposed to the Bowl? Certainly Pearce did not need to be bought. They said Ben Arredondo(former Dem Tempe councilman) asked for free tickets for his family. That sounds like extortion.
I don't think it's matter of anybody being opposed to the bowl. It's a matter of Junker making "friends" (having politicians in his pocket for future use) with Fiesta Bowl money. Extortion? For what?

I read the article presented by the OP. This goes beyond free tickets.

The article talks about John Junker, as the Fiesta Bowl CEO, coordinating campaign contributions, then using Fiesta Bowl employees to launder the money, paying for trips, not just tickets.

This guy Junker is a piece of work. He probably spent money on politicians from BOTH sides of the aisle. That's the best way to do it. The guy is a fraud. The FBI needs to investigate all this stuff.

Some politicians are worse than prostitutes. At least a prostitute is up front about her racket. Politicians? You never know.

I don't know why the article doesn't mention all the politicians. Maybe they zeroed in on Pearce because he's been making headlines on his own lately.

If you haven't, read the article.

Huh?

A politician denies something and the case is closed?

Are you kidding me?

Whatever ends up with Junker dismissing him as you do is not fair for what he did to bring the Fiesta Bowl from a backwater bowl to the pinnacle of college football. He is a true master in that regard and should be recognized for it. Did he go bad or did he do what was needed? His job was to curry favor with politicians, business leaders, and the like. I haven't seen allegations that he was getting rich himself or stealing. He passed around money. That is how this kind of business is done in the real world. Pearce is the slug who violated his oath and the laws of the state - not Junker.

Thanks for posting what the story didn't cover. It's interesting that they pick one name out of several to make their headline. I also noticed in the comments that someone said they never allow comments on illegal immigration issues, only those that denegrate the ones that want to uphold our federal laws. Are all Arizona news outlets so left leaning?
